About Vocal lesson
Singing lessons (private&group) are designed to develop student's musicality and self esteem. Certain technical aspects of singing will also be taught (such as breathing, phrasing). We wish all the young singers to be natural singers at this age of their development. They should not sound like Dame Joan Sutherland at such a young age! The ability to sing harmony against other voices is also extremely important. This will be developed over time as the children become used to singing with each other at each rehearsal. The class will also help all singers to develop their sight-reading skills. This will work together with aural training to ensure your child has all the necessary skills for whatever they wish to do with their music in their lives. In addition, the ability to work with other singers and conductors is something that we usually overlooked. Our Artistic Director, considers his choral training to have been one of the most important aspects of his education when he was a student at the Conservatorium of Music High School in Sydney [1986-1991].
Repertoire
We will use a wide ranging variety of music - both traditional and modern. Everything from simple rounds, fun songs and folk music, light pop music to serious choral works will be included in the choir preparation. Our Artistic Director, Glenn Amer, will also be writing some special pieces which will help the children get used to singing in a group situation. All music selected for the singers will be chosen to complement singer's abilities and to help them develop musicality and vocal training. It is important not to over-tax young voices, so the music chosen will always be very carefully thought through.
Performance Opportunity
All singers will participate in the End of Year Concert. They also have performance opportunities at festivals and community events. All students at the Beyond Talent Institute of music will perform at the concert, piano students, singers and even the staff will put in appearances. It is important for all students to realise that their teachers are professional performers as well! We hope to inspire all the students at the Beyond Talent Institute of Music by our leadership and our skills!
AMEB vocal exam programme
This vocal programme is a more structured course suited for those singers who wish to enter the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) series of graded examinations. This course is designed to prepare students for yearly examinations. There is a component of theory of music also involved with these exams. Repertoire, appropriate for each student is drawn from the current AMEB syllabus. This repertoire is wide ranging and good artistic choices will be found for each student. The AMEB syllabus will develop the musical and technical skills of singers towards achieving their full potential as performers in the classical tradition. The technical elements of the examination have been designed to embrace the historic traditions of vocal pedagogy from a contemporary perspective.
Auditioning
There is no audition for the young singers. We are happy to accept all young singers into the singing group regardless of their level of training or experience. We believe that everyone has a voice, and we would like to make everyone feel welcome in our singing programmes.
Solos
There will be opportunities for singers to take solo lines (if they wish to). The vocal teacher will be able to work out which singers would like to have solos after a certain period of training. This will also enable the singers to be relaxed and sing at their best!
