Vocal lesson
What style of music do the children sing?
We will use a wide ranging variety of music - both traditional and modern. Everything from simple rounds, fun songs and folk music, light pop music to serious choral works will be included in the choir preparation. Our Artistic Director, Glenn Amer, will also be writing some special pieces which will help the children get used to singing in a group situation.
Does the singing group sing in languages other than English?
Absolutely! Singing in various languages helps all singers get used to making different vowel sounds on different notes in all the vocal registers. It's also fun! Many of the choral works we sing will be in English (because singers often under-estimate the difficulty of singing in English!), but we will also sing other compositions in German, French and Italian. We will also be exploring the world of fun folk music - with compositions sung in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, and many other world languages. These explorations into the music of other cultures will help open your children's eyes and ears to the exciting world of world music.
What’s usually in the class?
We will do some simple warming up and breathing exercises to prepare all voices for a fun hour of choral singing. We will play some musical games, then go into some sight singing exercises, all at the same time preparing and learning some new musical pieces which can be used for preparing for our end of year concert, or used for developing the skills required in learning new music.
